After doing some spying herself, Miki learns that Hiro is a Deliverer, one of few chosen to control the limited flow of love in the world; by accepting this fate, Hiro became a non-human, sacrificing his own normal life to serve this role. After learning this secret, Miki should have had her memory erased, but her stubbornness is such that even powerful magic cannot deter her.

Rather than being angry, Hiro seems relieved to have a friend who knows his secret, and the first novel in the series ends quietly, with the two pursuing their bond. A seven-page introduction before the title page seems to set up the main climax of the whole series, which makes for a slightly confusing start for this particular outing.

However, as with his middle-grade Akiko series, Crilley's gripping and well-written plot and intriguing characters will easily lure readers back to see the series through. The black-and-white illustrations, softened with crosshatching and smoky grayshading, augment the text effectively: Romance readers will appreciate the elegant and well-developed magical twist to the typical boy-meets-girl story: Project MUSE promotes the creation and dissemination of essential humanities and social science resources through collaboration with libraries, publishers, and scholars worldwide.

I was bored out of my mind reading this. Nothing exciting happened, everything was just thrown together without much thought, and the climax left me rolling my eyes. Another thing I didn't like about this manga was how everything was being told to you. There was so much text about a scene that was going on That annoyed me to high heaven.

The fact that this took place at my favorite country, Japan, was another insult to add onto the list. To see such a vile story happening in Japan The art was no better.

I know I really shouldn't complain about art styles because everyone has their own taste in art I've complained about everything else, I'll complain about the art, too. It's a mess to say the least. The characters look really disgusting. They have fat faces and really thin bodies.

Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books

Their jaws are way too large and why the hell are their mouths in the middle of the face? They were just not pleasing to the eye. The scenery There wasn't a lot of details put in and sometimes it looked like you were staring at a blank page instead of looking at beautiful Japan.

The artwork was just dreadful. It hurt to look at. I wasn't able to stare at a page for longer than ten seconds before I felt myself just feeling disgusted. Crilley needs to work on his art before he is able to get anyone to really appreciate his work. I think one of the worst parts in this book has GOT to be the characters.

Miki Falls, Volume 1: Spring

Let's start off with Miki, our protagonist. She was pathetic. At first, she started off okay. She seemed strong and focused on making herself a better person. She didn't need a man to live life to the fullest and I liked that about her. However, once Hiro, the love interest, comes into the picture, she threw all her ideals out the window! She became obsessed with him! She wanted to know more about him even though he clearly told her to stay the hell away from him.

She started to stalk him and tell him that no, she wasn't going to give up on him. Some people might call that determination. I call it degrading yourself to a man that clearly wants nothing with you. What was Miki's main reason for going after Hiro?

Oh, because he was "mysterious. Hiro is no better. I guess the only reason I didn't throw it out the window is because I've been a loyal follower of Crilley since I was about 16 years old I'm 22 now and I see it as a nice collectible from the man. Well, let me at least explain why I didn't like it. It's cliched and the introduction reminded me of Twilight: He could have done it better: The level of detail is astonishing, the perspective magnificent, the anatomy mostly accurate and the line art very well controlled.

However, the art in Miki Falls feels far too rushed and, sad to say, really far from an actual manga style. Though I did like the style a bit, it could have been a lot better.

Too much narrative: Crilley relied too much on narrative boxes to explain what's going on rather than showing it, which only made it feel even more rushed. However, this would be more acceptable if he weren't attempting to create manga, since in comics narration is key. Yet, in manga, narration is very limited and most of what happens is shown through the character's movements, actions, expressions, etc.

Those were my main three issues with this, and giving this 3 stars was already biased by my liking for Mr.

However, I can't be blind about this, so yeah, that's what's up. Clean, Fun Romance! Can't Read Just One! By Marissa HopeStar Rating: I enjoyed this a lot. Though the book is obviously fast-paced, it does a good job portraying the characters and their feelings. I admire that they are true to their personalities, and for being fiction that the book does mix in some realistic aspects.

Looking at the drawings in each panel, I thought the artwork was beautifully done and I admired Mark Crilley's unique layouts for each page. It was very easy to read and follow along, and each page held it's own surprises. Overall, this was a fun read and I would read it again. This, for me, is the equivalent of a chick-flick, except obviously it's a more of a chick-lit.Load All Images.
